A Fresh Start for Anne Oxley Art: Creativity, Colour and New Directions
There’s something about a new year — or even a new season — that sparks a sense of possibility. For me, it often begins with a single brushstroke, a palette full of colour, and that familiar spark of excitement that comes when an idea starts to form. Today, I’m delighted to share what’s been happening behind the scenes at Anne Oxley Art, along with a glimpse of what’s coming next.
Finding Inspiration in Everyday Moments
People often ask where my ideas come from. The truth is, inspiration has a funny way of appearing when you least expect it — a walk along the coast, the curve of a flower petal, or even the shifting light that comes through the studio window on a grey morning.
These small moments have been shaping my latest collection, which focuses on movement, texture and expressive colour. I’ve been experimenting with new techniques and letting intuition lead the way, and it’s been wonderfully freeing.
Behind the Brush: My Creative Process
Every piece I create begins with feeling — sometimes calm and contemplative, other times bold and energetic. I use layers of paint to build depth, scraping back, adding more, and allowing the artwork to evolve naturally.
One thing I’ve been enjoying recently is stepping away from strict plans and letting the paint take over. It’s surprising how much more character emerges when I trust the process rather than trying to control every detail.
What’s New at Anne Oxley Art
This season brings a number of exciting new developments to my collection — each inspired by the beauty of our local Yorkshire coastline.
Filey Brigg Hand‑Painted Wooden Coasters
One of my favourite new projects has been creating a series of hand‑painted wooden coasters featuring Filey Brigg. Each one is painted individually, making every coaster a completely unique little piece of art. They are sealed to be heatproof and can be wiped clean only. Sold as sets of 4
I’ve focused on capturing the dramatic silhouettes of the cliffs, the ever‑changing tides, and the natural colours that make Filey Brigg so instantly recognisable. These coasters make lovely gifts and add a touch of coastal charm to any home — practical, decorative, and full of character.
Small Framed Acrylics of Filey Scenes
I’ve also been working on a new series of small framed acrylic paintings, each depicting a different Filey scene. They’re rich in texture and expressive brushwork, capturing the light and atmosphere of this beautiful seaside town.
Working at this more intimate scale has been a joy — it allows me to highlight the details that make each viewpoint special, whether it's the curve of the bay, a splash of colour in the sky, or the quiet mood of early morning tides.
A Thank You From Me
Running Anne Oxley Art has been an incredible journey, and I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who supports my work — whether you’ve purchased a piece, shared a post, visited an exhibition, or simply taken the time to enjoy my art. It truly means the world.
Here’s to a year filled with creativity, colour and connection.
Thank you for being here with me.
